The EU’s Counter-Terrorism coordinator Gilles de Kerchove has said that the EU will provide technical assistance to strengthen security in Sri Lanka.
He had made this remarks during a meeting with Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday (Jul 13). Kerchove is on a visit to Sri Lanka and Maldives between July 11 to 16.
During the meeting, the EU’s envoy had also agreed to share the required expertise in countering terrorism, with the Sri Lankan authorities.
Opposition Leader Rajapaksa, had told Kerchove that the Joint Opposition has been providing its fullest support to the government in ensuring national security, since the April 21 terrorist attacks.

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa is due to vacate his official residence at Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo this morning, a Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) source said.
The Presidents’ Entitlements (Repeal) Bill was passed by a majority of 150 in parliament today. However the opposition MP’s were absent during the voting.
