European tourists have topped the list of the highest number of tourist arrivals in Sri Lanka last month, the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority said.
The number of tourists who visited Sri Lanka last month stood at 244,239 thereby marking a 2.2 percent decrease in comparison to the arrivals in January last year which stood at 239,924.
Tourist arrivals from the Asian and Pacific regions came in second with 41 percent while the number of tourist arrivals from the US region accounted for six percent of the total tourist arrivals last month.
Meanwhile, neighbouring India was found to be the largest source of tourist traffic by recording 16 percent last month. China accounted for 11 percent of the total traffic while UK, Germany and Russia accounted for 11, six and five percent respectively.
