Former Army intelligence officer Lalith Rajapaksa has been granted bail by the Gampaha Magistrate's court over the assault of journalist Upali Tennakoon in 2009.
Mr. Rajapaksa had been released on a cash bail of Rs 25,000 and three surety bails each worth Rs 500,000.
Meanwhile, the Criminal Investigations Department requested court to cancel an identification parade of the suspect since Mr. Tennakoon had informed that he would not be able to appear as a witness since he is overseas.
The identification parade was initially planned to be held today (Aug 2).
The accused is alleged to have assaulted Mr. Rajapaksa in Imbulogda, Gampaha on January 23, 2009.
