The Excise Department will impose stringent measures on foreign liquor importers who do not affix the foolproof sticker on liquor bottles from next month, a senior Excise official said.
Deputy Excise Commissioner Kapila Kumarasinghe said that steps would be taken to impose a fine of more than Rs 500,000 on importers who breach this regulation.
Raids would be carried out across all hotels and outlets which sell foreign liquor from the beginning of next month, he noted.
The Finance Ministry had imposed a regulation in July, stating that the possession, transportation, storage, and the sale of imported liquor without the sticker would be considered unlawful.
This regulation had been introduced to curb the sale of adulterated liquor.
