All Expressways in Sri Lanka will be closed from 6.00pm today, Minister of Highways Johnston Fernando stated. The decision was taken in view of an island wide curfew is coming to effective from 6.00 pm today.
However, vehicles used by essential services and ambulances can still use the expressways even during the curfew period toll-free, he added.
Accordingly, after 6.00pm today, one lane of every expressway will be reserved for vehicles used by essential services, ambulances and vehicles that have been issued with curfew passes, the minister noted.
In order to minimise inconvenience, members of the public are urged to enter their vehicles to the expressways before 4.00pm today.
Meanwhile the Sri Lankan Airlines (SLA) announced that those SLA passengers who are flying out during curfew period can reach the airport during curfew, by producing their air tickets and passports to security forces and checkpoints.
