Father and son killed in bus-trishaw crash

A father and his five-year-old son died today after their three-wheeler collided head-on with a Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) bus at Marakolliya in Tangalle. 

Police said the incident occurred along the Tissamaharama-Matara Road. The SLTB bus, headed towards Colombo from Kataragama, had been racing another bus and had tried to overtake it at high speed. While trying to overtake the other bus, the SLTB bus had crashed head-on into the trishaw, headed from Tangalle to Hambantota. 

The father (42) and the son (5) were killed instantly. Police said the SLTB bus had been completely on the wrong side of the road when it crashed into the three-wheeler. 

The driver of the bus is in custody and investigations into the incident are ongoing.
