FCID allowed to probe Cabraal over Rs.600 million fraud

News

The Colombo Fort Magistrate's Court yesterday granted permission for the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) to record a statement from former Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal over an alleged financial fraud amounting to Rs.600 million.

The FCID has also been allowed by court to investigate Mr Cabraal's bank accounts.

The alleged fraud is said to have taken place during the former Government's ultimately unsuccessful bid to host the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Hambantota. The games were awarded to Gold Coast in Australia.
