Defence Secretary Major General (Rtd) Kamal Gunaratne has urged that there should not be any undue fear among the people following the presidential election.
Maj. Gen. Gunaratne, in a statement, emphasised that the fear of political revenge, abduction or disturbances following the recent political change, should not be created in the country.
He noted that the Acting Deputy Inspector General of Police and all senior police officials have been instructed to exercise extra vigilance and caution while ensuring security in the coming days.
The statement noted that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s vision is to create a country free of racial, religious, and political differences.“…Therefore, people can carry on with their normal lives without any fear.”
The Defence Secretary stressed that law enforcement units have been instructed to strictly enforce the law against people or groups who cause disturbances, irrespective of their status.
