Fifteen underworld criminals have been transferred to the Boossa prison from the prisons in Welikada and Dumbara amidst tight security, prisons sources said.
A senior official of the Prisons Department noted that these transfers had been carried out in keeping with a report submitted by intelligence units.
It is reported that among the transferred inmates are infamous criminals Samantha Kumara alias 'Vele Suda' and Mohamed Nawfer alias 'Potta Nawfer' who are serving death sentences.
Also among the convicts are Mohamed Imran alias 'Kanjipaani Imran' who was sentenced to six years of rigorous imprisonment over a narcotic related offence.
A prisons official said that more inmates are expected to be transferred to the Boossa prison in near future.
