Update: Three suspects accused of misappropriating funds worth Rs 500 million belonging to Litro Gas Lanka have been acquitted by the Special High Court today (Aug 8).
The suspects are former President Mahinda Rajapaksa's Chief of Staff Gamini Senerath, former Managing Director of Sri Lanka Insurance Piyadasa Kudabalage and Lasantha Bandara.
During today's hearing, court ruled that the 24 charges levelled against the accused had not been proven beyond reasonable doubt.
The final verdict in the case against former President Mahinda Rajapaksa's Chief of Staff Gamini Senerath and three others is to be announced today (Aug 08) by the Special High Court.
The bench comprising Justices Sampath Abeykoon, Sampath Wijeratne, and Champa Janaki Rajaratne is due to announce the verdict.
The Attorney General had initially filed the case against Gamini Senarath and three others under the Public Property Act for allegedly misappropriating Rs 500 million funds belonging to Litro Gas Lanka by investing in ventures including the Helanko Hotels & Spa hotel project, from February 1, 2014 - January 20, 2015.
Piyadasa Kudabalage and Lasantha Bandara were named as the other two defendants of the case.
