Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera will submit a vote-on account (interim budget) for the first quarter of 2020, in Parliament today (Oct 23).
A senior Treasury official said that the carbon tax levied on vehicles will be removed from the budget. The vote-on account will also see tax concessions being granted for essential goods.
The highest allocation worth Rs 1 billion would be allocated for the Elections Secretariat, the senior official said.
The government had decided against submitting an annual budget, which is generally done in November, due to the presidential election scheduled to be held on November 16.
