The Finance Ministry has issued a circular instructing all divisional secretariats to implement a mechanism in order to collect the carbon tax from vehicle owners, a Ministry official said.
The circular had been issued since the carbon tax had not been collected while issuing revenue licences, the official noted.
According to the circular, vehicle owners who had collected their revenue licence without paying the carbon tax, will be instructed to make the due payments within the upcoming months.
