The fine imposed on drivers operating inter-provincial buses without a passenger service permit has been doubled upto Rs 500,000, the National Transport Commission (NTC) said.
At present there are about 200 buses which are operating without such permits, NTC Chairman Janaka Mallimarachchi said. He pointed out that this number has shown signs of increasing further in future.
Mr. Mallimarachchi noted that steps would be taken to put forward a proposal before cabinet in this regard.
