A fire which erupted in Maskeliya left 13 houses completely damaged while affecting 57 area residents today (Sept 20).
Area residents along with the Police had doused the fire after approximately one hour, leaving belongings such as housing appliances, clothing, text books and uniforms of students.
Meanwhile state authorities in the area including the Maskeliya Pradeshiya Sabha are taking steps to provide relief measures to the affected residents. The affected residents are currently lodged at a child care centre in the area.
Police have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire.
