A first year female student of the Kelaniya university was injured after being stabbed inside the University today (Jun 13), Police said.
Police said the stabbing had taken place close to the Bandaranaike Hostel at the University premises where the student was staying.
According to the police, the stabbing was committed by a male student and the incident had taken place over a love affair. The first year student is now receiving treatment at the Colombo North Teaching Hospital.
The victim has been identified as a 21-year old, police said adding that the 22-year old suspect who had carried out the stabbing has been arrested.
He is due to be produced before the Mahara Magistrate's court today (Jun 13).
