The Fisheries Ministry will take measures to declare the Kalpitiya Beach and the Kodiyyar Bay as whale watching locations from next month onwards.
Accordingly, foreign tourists who engage in whale watching at these locations will be charged USD 15 a ticket, the Fisheries Ministry said adding that ticket prices would be strictly regulated with the support of the Wildlife Department.
A sum of USD 05 earned from each ticket will be used for the development of the fishing industry.
Meanwhile, the government has been able to generate a revenue of Rs 45 million over the last two months alone from tourists who visit the Mirissa beach - the only established whale watching location in the country so far.
