Five districts including Colombo have been added to the list of landslide prone areas by the National Building Research Organisation (NBRO).
The latest additions also include the Ampara, Monaragala, Kurunegala and Gampaha districts.
Previously, the NBRO had identified the Kandy, Matale, Nuwara Eliya, Badulla, Kegalle, Ratnapura, Kalutara, Galle, Matara, and Hambantota districts as areas vulnerable to landslides.
Accordingly, the Disaster Management Ministry received cabinet approval this week to conduct Landslide Risk Assessments in these newly identified areas.
