The government has decided to award compensation to five families which had to be relocated due to a water supply project.
These families had been evacuated from their homes due to an integrated water supply project in Badulla, Hali-ela, and Ella. Accordingly, compensation would be granted based on the current market value of their residential property.
In addition, 15 illegal occupants of land owned by the Land Reclamation Authority who had been relocated due to the project will also receive a permit certifying the legality of the lands in which they have been currently located.
Similar permits will be issued to the five families who were also relocated in addition to their compensation, a cabinet paper submitted by the Ministry of City Planning and Water Supply.
The proposal has been approved by the cabinet of ministers.
