Five Sri Lankan fishermen who were rescued after being marooned in Pakistani waters will return to the country today (Jun 12).
It is reported that the vessel used by the fishermen had capsized about two weeks ago while they were fishing in Pakistani waters.
According to the Fisheries Ministry, the fishermen will be sent back on a flight as they are not in a fit condition to travel.
The government will bear the cost for the air tickets, the Fisheries Ministry said adding that it would take measures to retrieve the multi-day fishing trawler used by the fishermen.
The fishermen had been trapped at sea for nearly a week before they were rescued by Pakistani Coast guard officials. They were released after being produced before court for poaching in Pakistani waters.
