Former Director of the Criminal Investigations Department Shani Abeysekera has filed a Fundamental Rights petition in the Supreme Court challenging his transfer.
In the petition, SSP Abeysekera stated that his fundamental rights had been violated by the transfer order.
Further, in his petition, he has called for the cancellation of the transfer and to be reinstated as the Director of the CID.
SSP Abeysekara was transferred on Nov 21 to Galle by the National Police Commission. The NPC said the transfer was made upon the request of the Acting Inspector General of Police.
SSP Abeysekara thereafter served as the Personal Assistant of the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) in charge of the Galle District.
