Former CJ files petition against PC Elections Act

Former Chief Justice Sarath N. Silva has filed a petition in the Supreme Court against the Provincial Councils Elections Amendment Act. 

In his petition, the former CJ has asked the Supreme Court to declare that the Act was unlawful. 

The controversial Act was recently passed in Parliament by a 2/3 majority. Some opposition parties and civil society organizations have criticized the Act, stating the Government is trying to postpone elections using the Act.
