Former coordinating secretary Champika Karunaratne further remanded

  Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa's Coordinating Secretary Champika Karunaratne who was arrested on charges of misappropriating public funds, was yesterday further remanded till November 16 by Colombo Fort Magistrate . The Police Financial Crimes Investigations Division (FCID) told Court that the suspect has allegedly been employed at the Ports and Highways Ministry, National Lotteries Board and the State Timber Corporation while holding the office as former President's Coordinating Secretary. The FCID alleged that the suspect had cheated a sum of Rs. 2.8 million while serving as an employee of the Ports and Highways Ministry from 2011 to 2015. Police moved Court that the suspect be further remanded since he had committed an offense that comes under Public Property Act.
