A former LTTE cadre who was serious injured in an accidental explosion at Iyakkachchi in Kilinochchi has died, Palai Police confirmed.
The 44-year-old individual died was initially admitted to Kilinochchi hospital before being transferred to Anuradhapura hospital for further treatment. He died while undergoing treatment at the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital this morning (8). Police suspect he was injured when a homemade bomb he was trying to assemble exploded.
Police and the Terrorist Investigation Division conducted a search operation in the area after the explosion and police stated that they found two other homemade bombs and another partially built bomb from the house of the former LTTE cadre. Police had also recovered a poster celebrating the day dedicated to the LTTE's Black Tiger squad. The wife of the former LTTE member is now in police custody. along with two other suspects. TID detectives are interrogating them regarding the reasons as to why the bombs were being assembled.
