Former parliamentarian P.H. Piyasena has been sentenced to four years of imprisonment for failing to return a vehicle belonging to the Prime Minister's office for one year after losing his seat as parliamentarian.
Mr. Piyasena who represented the Tamil National Alliance was also instructed to pay a penalty of Rs 5.4 million for committing the said offence, by the Colombo High Court.
A case was filed by the Attorney General against the former MP under the Public Property Act.
The Attorney General claimed that the suspect had not returned the vehicle after losing his seat at the general elections in August 2015.
