Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa today called the government to hold local and provincial elections immediately.
Mr Rajapaksa addressing the ‘Joint opposition’ May Day celebrations at the Galle Face green said that the large crowds which gathered at the venue was a clear signal that they could face elections successfully.
‘We accepted your challenge to fill the Galle Face Green with people. Now it is time to accept our challenge to hold elections’, he said.
‘I am sure they will now fear to hold elections’, he said.
Mr Rajapaksa said that not only the Galle Face green was filled up with people, but some others could not stay at the venue as it was overcrowded.
