Four people died when a Colombo bound bus from Jaffna toppled into the Hamilton Canal in Nattandiya today (Nov 29) leaving 17 others injured.
The bus had been travelling along the Meegamuwa-Halawatha road at the time of the incident.
It is reported that the bus, carrying 37 passengers who have been identified as Sri Lankans living in Canada, was heading towards the Bandaranaike International Airport.
Accordingly, the incident had occured when the passengers were travelling towards the airport in order to leave for Canada following their stay in the country.
The driver of the bus along with three others have died in the accident.
Marawila police say that those injured in the incident have been admitted to the Marawila General hospital.
