Four suspects alleged to have been involved in a ganja smuggling racket have been taken into custody by the Peliyagoda police.
Police had initially arrested a suspect with 1.9 kilograms of ganja on August 12. He had been interrogated under detention orders.
Based on information provided by this suspect, a further four suspects allegedly involved in the racket were arrested during a raid conducted in Hunupitiya last night (17). Two cars, a motorbike, six mobile phones as well as cash amounting to Rs 125, 000 allegedly earned through ganja smuggling were also taken into custody during the raid.
The suspects, aged 26, 28, 30 ans 40 years are residents of Hunupitiya, Kadawatha and Walahanduwa. They are due to be produced before the Aluthkade No.5 Magistrate's Court today.
