Four persons have been apprehended with gold worth Rs 50 million which had been stolen from the Sri Maha Badrakali Amman Temple in Galthanna, Kandy, yesterday (Sept 25).
The suspects, who are believed to be part of a six-member group which had carried out the theft, had been arrested while travelling in a three-wheeler.
Police said that the suspects had also stolen cash worth Rs 400,000.
It is believed that the group had brandished a pistol, and had locked up the priest in a room at the time of the theft. They had also tied up the employees at the Temple.
Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
