A fundamental rights petition challenging the Speaker's decision to convene Parliament amidst the Supreme Court's (SC) interim injunction has been filed at the SC today (Dec 10).
The FR petition was filed by Attorney-at-law Aruna Laksiri.
The petitioner claimed that Speaker Karu Jayasuriya has acted in contempt of court by convening Parliament while an interim injuction was in effect.

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa is due to vacate his official residence at Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo this morning, a Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) source said.
The Presidents’ Entitlements (Repeal) Bill was passed by a majority of 150 in parliament today. However the opposition MP’s were absent during the voting.
