G A Deniththi yesterday (April 4) took oaths before Southern Governor Keerthi Tennakoon as a Minister of the Southern Provincial Council.
The position fell vacant following the resignation of Krishantha Pushpakumara alias 'Raththaran' as a member of the council who vacated the post of Minister as well.
Accordingly, Mr. Deniththi who was a member of the Council representing the United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) was the next in line to be nominated as Provincial Council Minister.
He had entered the Southern Provincial Council as a member for the first time in 1988 and was re-elected to the local government body by contesting under the UPFA ticket in 2014.
