Jathika Hela Urumaya parliamentarian Udaya Gammanpila has requested the public to provide information on MPs who are holding dual-citizenships in order to initiate legal action against them.
MP Gammanpila taking to his twitter handle said that on inquiring under the RTI from the Department of Immigration on dual citizenship MPs he was informed by the Immigration Controller that a mechanism to identify dual citizens was not available.
He added that the Department will not be able to find out whether MPs possess a dual citizenship unless the parliamentarians voluntarily declare it.
When I requested details of dual citizenships of MPs under RTI Act, Immigration Controller informed me that there were no such MPs. They have no mechanism to find that out, unless MPs voluntarily declared about it.
If anybody has evidence, pl forward us to initiate legal action.— Udaya Gammanpila (@UPGammanpila) December 29, 2018
Unless MPs voluntarily declare about dual citizenships, immigration controller has no mechanism to find that out. No country will give information about their citizens to other countries.
