An armed gang carried out an attack on a person causing serious injuries to him in the Jaffna town on Sunday evening.
The attack was carried out near a Hindu temple in the town by a gang who had arrived in a car.
Police said the victim appeared to be a gang leader known as Dhanu Rock. He was travelling on a motorcycle when the gang attacked him. The group had fled leaving the vehicle.
Police were trying to trace the persons responsible for the attack.
