A special gazette has been released announcing that the first session of the eighth Parliament will be operative in Parliament from 9.30 a.m. on September 02, President Media Unit said. The Announcement has been made by the Secretary to the President p. B. Abeykoon, under the directive of President Maithripala Sirisena. This gazette has been issued under the powers bestowed to the President under the Clause 70 of the Constitution. The gazette has been numbered as 1929-13.

The Supreme Court today refused interim relief in an application filed by President’s Counsel Senaka Walgampaya seeking an Order from the Supreme Court compelling the President to appoint judges to fill the existing vacancies in the Court Of Appeal.
