Individuals who are genuinely against the government can vote in favour of the proposed no-confidence motion against the same, Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) member Tilvin Silva said.
"Some allies of Mahinda Rajapaksa claimed that the JVP is trying to protect the government by bringing the no-confidence motion. It seems unclear as to how that could be done since the motion is against the government," Mr. Silva said.
The JVP's General Secretary claimed that the government has failed to fulfill its promises towards the people over the last four years. He pointed out that the government had also failed to control the country's economy and also ensure the safety of the people in the recent past.
"There is only about one year left for this government. But we feel it would be best to vote the government out of power at the earliest," Mr. Silva noted.
