Geoffrey Aloysius - the sixth accused in the Bond Scam case, was permitted to travel abroad for a month by the Special High Court today (Dec 4).
A three-member judge bench during a hearing ordered the accused to furnish two sureties worth Rs 250,000 each before being allowed to go overseas for medical treatment.
The Attorney General has charged 10 individuals under the Public Property Act, for alleged irregularities that had taken place while issuing Central Bank treasury bonds in 2015.
Meanwhile, court heard that the Singaporean Attorney General's Department is corresponding with its Sri Lankan counterparts to extradite former central bank governor Arjuna Mahendran - a key accused in the case.
Additional Solicitor General Parinda Ranasinghe informed court the documents to extradite Mahendran, believed to be absconding arrest warrants in Singapore, is being studied by the Singapore Attorney General’s Department.
The case is being heard before Justices Sampath Abeykoon, Sampath Wijeratne, and Champa Janaki Rajaratne.
