GMOA lists out nine demands to be fulfilled by the new govt.

The GMOA have listed out nine demands by doctors and trade unionists that they expect to be fulfilled by the government.

Issuing a press release, the GMOA said that all future decisions based on the Singapore-Sri Lanka Free Trade Agreement (FTA) should be taken based on the recommendations of the committee appointed by the President to study the FTA.

The GMOA further said that they expect the government to amend the National tax police which they claimed was drafted to appease the International Monetary Fund.

In addition, the release called for the withdrawal of counter-terrorism and arbitrary Acts that were passed with the motive of controlling trade unionists.

Further, the GMOA urged that a conducive environment be created for all doctors and trade unionists in the country.

While lauding the President’s efforts to appoint a Special Salaries Committee, the GMOA in the release said that it urges the government to resolve all salary issues in the public sector while drafting a National Allowance Police as per their suggestions.

The release also called for a gazette to be submitted by the Minister of Higher Eductation to abolish SAITM while also urging that the GMOA be entrusted with the task of deciding the educational standards pertaining to medical studies.

The GMOA also called for timely amendments to be made in the Medical Ordinance Act.

The release noted that the GMOA was willing to hold talks with the President in this regard.
