The contempt of court case filed against Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) President Dr Anuruddha Padeniya was fixed for June 4 by the Appeal Court today (May 28).
This was announced by the two member judge bench of Justices Arjuna Obeysekera, and Nissanka Bandula Karunaratne before whom the case would be heard.
Dr. Padeniya has been accused of condemning the Appeal Court's verdict on the SAITM private medical institute case on during a protest opposite the Fort Railway station on April 07.
Previously the Appeal Court had issued an interim order on the GMOA President to refrain making derogatory statements concerning the judiciary.
The case against Dr. Padeniya was filed by Professor Sarath Wijesuriya representing the National Movement for Social Justice and Convenor of the Puravesi Balaya movement.
Prof. Wijesuriya acting as the petitioner had said that the remarks made by Dr. Padeniya urged court to take action against Dr. Padeniya as per Section 105 (3) of the constitution.
