The GMOA has reiterated its request to President Maithripala Sirisena against the appointment of MP Rajitha Senaratne as the Minister of Health in the appointment of a new cabinet which is expected to be sworn in on Monday.
The release further said the GMOA had already submitted a petition consisting of 14,000 signatures by medical professionals requesting the President to refrain from appointing MP Senaratne as the Minister of Health, while also pointing out that it had forwarded several requests to the President in the past in this regard.
In addition, the release explained that the reasons which were cited by the GMOA against the appointment of MP Senaratne as Health Minister were more relevant to today's context when compared to the time during which it was submitted.
Furthermore, the GMOA went on to note that the Health sector would achieve beneficial results if the Ministry of Health was brought under the direct purview of the President.
The release also added that the GMOA would convene a Central Committee meeting and decide on the future course of action if the need arises to do so.
