GMOA writes to WHO against Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne for misusing his position

News

The Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) has lodged complaints against Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne for misusing his Vice Chairmanship position with the World Health Organisation (WHO).

In a complaint filed against Dr. Senaratne at the WHO today (Jun 21), the GMOA alleged that the Health Minister who serves as the Vice Chairman of the WHO had been misusing his position to maximise political benefits.

While raising queries on the selection criteria for this top post at the global health body, the GMOA also questioned as to whether the position was granted to a country or a person based on their individual performances.

The complainants pointed out that the Health Minister has been accused of several malpractices with the biggest one being the distribution of cancer drugs which had not been certified by the WHO.

The medical health body also claimed that Mr. Senaratne must be held responsible for spending public funds worth Rs 5 billion for SAITM which has not been acquired by the government yet.

Further, the GMOA sought an explanation from the WHO for funding the Suwapathi felicitation ceremony held for the Health Minister.

The medical officers body also noted that they would file a police complaint against him for taking steps to send a Letter of Demand seeking compensation over some defamatory remarks allegedly made against him.
