Gnanasara Thera files FR petition seeking to avoid arrest

General Secretary of the Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) Venerable Galagoda Aththe Ganasara Thera yesterday filed a Fundamental Rights petition in the Supreme Court seeking an interm order preventing his arrest. 

The Thera in his petition, which was submitted through his lawyers, had stated that the Organized Crimes Prevention Division(OCPD), which is currently conducting investigations into several incidents of alleged communal disharmony, is preparing to arrest him before those investigations are completed. 

The OIC of the OCPD is among four respondents named in the FR petition. 

Ven. Gnanasara Thera, in his petition, is seeking an interim order preventing his arrest until the conclusion of the OCPD's investigations and until instructions from the Attorney General are received.
