Gotabhaya's Avant-Garde case to be heard on July 11

News

The Colombo Chief Magistrate's court today (Apr 29) announced that the Avant-Garde case against former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa will be taken up for hearing on July 11.

This order was issued when the case was taken up before court this afternoon.

The case against the former Defence Secretary and nine others was filed by the Bribery Commission for causing losses amounting to Rs 11.4 billion to the government for allegedly allowing Avant Garde Maritime Services (Pvt) Ltd to operate a floating armoury at the Galle Fort.

Previously, the Appeal Court had issued an interim order on hearing the case after former Defence Secretary Rajapaksa had appealed against the case filed at the Chief Magistrates Court.

Accordingly, the Chief Magistrates Court had announced that it would postpone the case due to the interim injuction issued by the Appeal Court.
