Southern Province Governor Keerthi Tennakoon has signed the gazette notfication to dissolve the Southern Provincial Council with effect from midnight.
Governor Tennakoon told Times Online that he had signed the gazette since the five-year term of the Provincial Council would end at midnight.
Following this move, the total number of dissolved Provincial Councils stands at seven. The term of the Western Provincial Council will end this month while the Uva Provincial Council's term will end in September.
