The government has allocated Rs 11.6 million for the first stage of renovation of 15 water tanks in the Northern Province, the Northern Governor's Office said in a statement.
A discussion on the renovation project had been held between Northern Governor Suren Raghavan and the relevant state officials yesterday (Sept 17).
During the discussion, it had been observed that there are three tanks each in the five districts located in the region.
Accordingly, an agreement had been reached to renovate these tanks by expanding its size and utilizing it for irrigation activities to assist farmers, the statement read.
The allocation for this project has been made by the Ministry of Northern Province Development headed by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
