The wage expectations of government executive officers were not fulfilled during this year's budget proposal, the Governement Executive Officers' Joint Committee (GEOJC) said.
Officials of the committee said they had expected the budget to address and resolve the salary issues pertaining to the public service.
"The Rs 2500 increase in allowances for public servants which was proposed during this year's budget is an attempt to mislead the public" Chairman of the GEOJC Dr. Nimal Karunasiri claimed.
The budget put forward by Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera yesterday (Mar 06), proposed Rs 12,000 million to increase pension of public servants who have served for over 25 years.
A normal pensioner’s payment was proposed to be increased by Rs 1,600, while teachers and Ministry Secretaries would receive an increase in pension by Rs 4,600 and Rs 12,000 respectively.
