The government parliamentary group has unanimously approved a proposal of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa to ban the slaughter of cattle in Sri Lanka.
The proposal was brought at the parliamentary group meeting held today (8), State Minister Shehan Semasinghe said.
“The Prime Minister at today’s Parliamentary group meeting expressed his intention to bring a motion to stop the slaughter of cattle”, he said.
Mr. Semasinghe said that the Prime Minister sought the group members’ opinion on imposing the ban.
“The parliamentary group members unanimously agreed on the matter and approved the proposal made. Therefore the Prime Minister has assured the members that he would carry out the process needed to ban the slaughter of cattle in Sri Lanka”, he explained.
