Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa has said that the government must bear responsibility for the killing of two businessmen in Rathgama.
"Democracy is still prevalent in the country. However, the villagers cannot live in peace. They are abducted and killed by the police. This is similar to the corruption that existed in the 1980s and 90s" Mr. Rajapaksa was quoted saying during an economic conference in Anuradhapura today (Mar 03).
The opposition leader also made it an occasion to comment on the recent remarks made by State Minister Ranjan Ramanayake on the alleged usage of cocaine by MPs and Ministers.
"Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe initially accepted that there were cabinet ministers who consume cocaine. However, now they are trying to cover up their faults. This is similar to spitting in the wind" the former President remarked.
