State Minister Vijayakala Maheswaran addressing an event in Jaffna today (Feb 07) said that the education of those in the North and East were badly affected by the LTTE war and that the government should take additional measures to uplift education in these provinces.
She also claimed that although the present government is currently engaging in efforts to address the problems of the people in the Northern and Eastern provinces, the failure on the part of the previous government to do so has not resolved the problems of the youth in these provinces.
"The addiction of youth towards drugs and other unlawful activities is a result of this" the State Minister lamented adding that she was concerned about them as a mother. On the same lines, she urged the need to guide this corrupted society in the correct path.
Further, Ms. Maheswaran said that she was not satisfied by the decisions taken by the police at times while arresting individuals linked to unlawful activities in the North and the East.
Ms. Maheswaran added that it was highly unlikely an LTTE uprising would take place in the future.
