The Cabinet has decided to instruct officials to dispose of over 7700 Government owned vehicles which are not in a running condition.
Information provided by Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera had revealed that 7723 vehicles currently owned by the Central Government and Public Enterprises were not in running condition.
According to statistics made available yesterday, the Government owned 57, 961 vehicles. A total of 50, 238 of these were in running condition, of which 26,732 were owned by the Central Government while 23,506 were owned by Public Enterprises.
Of the 7723 vehicles which weren't in running condition, 5922 belonged to the Central Government while 1801 belonged to Public Enterprises.
Accordingly,Cabinet decoded to instruct officials to dispose of vehicles which are not in running condition with immediate effect.
