The government has decided to increase the monthly allowance being paid to differently abled persons up to Rs. 5,000.
Accordingly, the increase will be effective from July 1 and the monthly allowance which is currently being paid at a rate of Rs 3,000 per month will be increased by another Rs 2,000, bringing the rate up to Rs. 5,000 with this new amendment, a release from the Finance Ministry said.
More than 30,000 persons registered under the Ministry of Primary Industries and Social Empowerment have upto now been paid this allowance of Rs. 3,000 each. In addition, more than 40,000 people have been nelwy registered and will also be entitled to receive this allowance.
Rs 4,350 million has been allocated for this year to enhance the present allowance under the 2019 budget proposal, the Ministry said in the release adding that the increase in allowance is part of the 2019 Budget proposal to reach out to more than 70,000 registered differently abled individuals.
Further the circular granting approval for these payments has been issued by the Treasury yesterday (June 12) to the Ministry of Primary Industries and Social Empowerment.
