The government will launch a special programme to uplift the lives of estate workers.
Financial mismanagement and estate workers issues have led to the failure of the estate industry to produce the expected outcomes, Minister Navin Dissanayake observed in a cabinet proposal yesterday (Jun 04).
He noted that providing housing alone to the estate community will not produce the desired results.
Therefore, the special programme will focus on uplifting the lives of estate workers, and curbing the usage of alcohol in the estate communities.
Awareness will also be created among these workers on the manner in which their income should be spent in a fruitful manner.
The special programme will be carried out by the Ministry of Hill Country, New Villages, Infrastructure & Community Development in near future.
